Job Title: Staff Engineer, Core

Location: Lekki, Lagos
The Role

• We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Engineer to maintain, optimize, and extend our existing core APIs (Ledger, Acquiring, Payouts, Identity).
• As a distributed systems expert and database optimization veteran, your primary goal will be ensuring zero-downtime, idempotency, and scaling the database architecture for massive launches.
• You will touch the actual money flows; compromising on experience and reliability is not an option. You will also be responsible for adding robust edge-case routing logic for existing payment methods.
  Responsibilities include but are not limited to
• Architect, maintain, and optimize core backend APIs handling Ledgers, Acquiring, Payouts, and Identity
• Ensure high availability and zero-downtime across critical financial systems
• Scale and optimize database architecture to support significant transaction volumes and product launches
• Design and implement bulletproof idempotency mechanisms for money flows
• Develop complex routing logic for payment methods to seamlessly handle edge cases
• Lead technical direction and mentor senior engineers within the Core Systems team
• Collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional technical teams to support mission-critical payment infrastructure.
  Required competency and skillset to be a waver
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 8-10 years of backend software engineering experience, specifically dealing with financial systems, ledgers, or payment gateways
• Expert-level knowledge of distributed systems and microservices architecture
• Veteran-level experience in database optimization, query performance tuning, and schema design at scale
• Deep understanding of transaction management, idempotency, and data integrity
• Proven ability to deliver complex infrastructure projects with zero-downtime requirements
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and a strong commitment to system reliability and security.
