Job Summary
- The Cleaning Equipment Operator will operate and maintain a full range of mechanised cleaning equipment ride-on and walk-behind scrubber/dryers, high-speed rotary scrubbers, sweepers, carpet and steam extractors, industrial wet & dry vacuums, height-access cleaning equipment, and restroom cleaning units to deliver consistent, high-quality cleaning across large indoor and outdoor areas.
- The role requires a technically capable operator who follows standard operating procedures, works safely around the public, and maintains equipment to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities - Operate ride-on and walk-behind scrubber/dryers, high-speed rotary scrubbers, and ride-on/pedestrian sweepers for daily floor care across large hard-floor areas (foyers, halls, concourses, corridors).
- Operate carpet chemical extractors and steam extractors for scheduled deep cleaning of carpets, upholstery, and seating areas.
- Operate industrial wet & dry vacuums and back-pack upright vacuums for workshops, technical rooms, staircases, and hard-to-reach areas.
- Operate height-access cleaning equipment safely for elevated and difficult-to-reach cleaning tasks, following all height-safety procedures.
- Operate dedicated restroom cleaning units and electrostatic/mist sprayers for hygiene and disinfection tasks in washrooms and public areas.
- Carry out daily pre-use equipment checks, basic maintenance, and battery/charging management; report faults and defects promptly.
- Follow scheduled cleaning zone plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent coverage and finish quality across all areas.
- Handle cleaning chemicals safely and correctly, in line with COSHH/product safety data and site safety procedures.
- Maintain equipment logs and usage records; support the Floor Care/Soft Services Supervisor with stock and consumables tracking.
- Work safely around members of the public and other staff, using correct signage (caution signs/tapes) during operations.
- Support pressure washing and outdoor sweeping/degreasing tasks as required.
Requirements and Qualifications - Minimum secondary school education; a technical/vocational certificate in cleaning operations or equipment handling is an advantage.
- >5 years’ hands-on experience operating mechanised cleaning equipment (ride-on/walk-behind scrubbers, extractors, sweepers) in a commercial, institutional, or industrial setting.
- Demonstrable ability to operate multiple machine types safely and competently; willingness to be trained/certified on new equipment.
- Basic understanding of cleaning chemical safety and correct dilution/application practices.
- Comfortable working at height using appropriate access equipment, following training and safety procedures.
- Physically fit and able to work on your feet for extended periods, including pushing/manoeuvring equipment across large areas.
- Willingness to work shifts, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends, based on operational and event schedules.
- Reliable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in a live, high-footfall public environment.
Salary
N150,000 per month.
